Phil Kent

Phil Kent comes from Cheltenham, in Gloucestershire UK. He became interested in jazz after having seen the Dudley Moore/Roy Budd trios. He moved up to London where he studied jazz music and improvisation, with jazz virtuoso bass player Peter Ind. After two years, he became proffesional, and went on to play with most of Britains top jazz musicians, including, saxophonist Tubby Hayes, Acker Bilk, Brian Lemon, Sandy Brown, and Phil Seaman. He was also the regular bass player with Bob Wallis and his Storeyville Jazzmen. His main influences were Pete McGurk, Ron Matthewson, and latterley the superb American bass player Brian Bromberg. Having toured Europe for almost 15 years, he decided to slow the pace down a bit, and so he bought a cottage in a small village in Somerset. These days, he is still involved with music by running music websites such as, www.dudleymoore.co.uk - www.horstjankowski.co.uk and his latest new site which is www.blackforestjazz.co.uk. He still plays double bass, and is now concentrating more on solo accoustic bass, and multi-tracking.
