Peter Armstead

Peter Armstead (born January→March 1934 in Dewsbury district) is a former rugby league footballer who at representative level has played for England (Amateur), and at club level Wakefield Trinity, and Batley.
International honours
Whilst playing for Batley he earned an international cap when he was selected to represent England in the Amateur International Match against France at Perpignan (3 May 1953).
He was vice-captain for Trinity. On September 7, 1957 the 24 year old vice-captain was placed on Trinity's transfer list at his own request - fee £1000, (based on average earnings, this would be approximately £45,600 in 2009.. He transferred to captain Batley first team in 1957 until hanging up his boots in 1960.
Starting out playing for Batley St Marys R C under 15's, then aged 15 he moved to Batley Celtic under-16 team, where he kicked 15 goals in the Celtic - St Paulinus final, receiving a miniature cup from Mr E. Mullins a director of the Batley club. In his first season in intermediate football, he kicked well over 60 goals.
Amstead, when a Wakefield Trinity player, also played for Hanging Heaton WMC on June 4, 1955 in the final of the Lydall Trophy R L workshops competition. He was presented with the trophy for the most outstanding player, judged by G. Withington, the Dewsbury rugby league player.
