The Perth Broncos are a Gridiron team based in Perth, Western Australia. Team history Founded in early 1987 after a Gridiron recruiting tour piqued interest in the area, and originally known as The Bassendean Broncos, The Broncos were founding members of W.A.G.F.L. (Western Australian Gridiron Football League)in 1988. The Broncos are one of the longest running Gridiron teams in Australia (Gold Coast Stingrays: active since 1987) with many other teams either folding or merging in what is an amateur sport in that country. The Bassendean Broncos played in the first ever local Gridiron game in W.A., defeating The Southside Seahawks 2-0 with the lone score being a safety. The Broncos were also later founding members of Western Australia's current Gridiron league, Gridiron West, which kicked off in 1994. Over the years The Broncos have had much success and made several Grand Final appearances. In the 2012/2013 season, the Perth Broncos had an undefeated season to make the final series. Playing the Curtin Saints, the Broncos won the semi-final 50-14. Playing the Perth Blitz in the grand final, the Broncos won a nail biting game, down to the last play winning 28-26.
