Paul Tamanian

Paul Tamanian (born 1954) is an American abstract painter, sculptor, and ceramicist who uses industrial and nontraditional materials. He currently lives and works in Tallahassee, Florida.
Early life and education
Paul Tamanian was born in Schenectady, New York but moved with his family to Clearwater, Florida around the age of eight. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in interior design from Florida State University college of Fine Arts in 1976.
Career
Tamanian went on to show his first exhibition at a small gallery in Havana, Florida in 1992. He then progressed to exhibit his works across the United States, including at the Boca Raton Museum, in Florida's Capitol building, and at Florida A&M University.
Tamanian uses a variety of mediums and glazes to create each piece, including traditional glazes, industrial fabric dyes, automobile paints, and odd chemicals that alter texture and/or color.
Commissioned works
Tamanian was commissioned by Legal Sea Foods president Roger Berkowitz to paint a 15 foot wide crimson colored mural as the artistic centerpiece of the Downtown Crossing location. The abstract painting of a nude woman lying on her side is meant to be an ode to the former Combat Zone red light district that was nearby to the restaurant.
