Paul Karason

Paul Karason (born ca. 1952) is an American whose skin turned a purple-blue color over a period of about a decade.

Karason was fair-skinned and freckled until about 1993, when his complexion began to develop a bluish hue, attributed to his drinking and rubbing a solution of colloidal silver into his skin for dermatitis. Silver and various silver compounds, which have been used for centuries for their antibiotic properties, are known to be associated with skin pigmenting in a medical condition called argyria. Karason continues to drink colloidal silver despite its apparent effects to his skin color because of its "profound benefits" for problems with sinus, arthritis, and acid reflux. Argyria, which also presents significant health risks up to and including brain damage and death, is irreversible.

Karason and his girlfriend Jackie Northrup moved from Oregon to the California Central Valley community Madera in the summer of 2007 seeking greater community acceptance. He describes himself as somewhat of a recluse, and as of February 2008, has not sought professional medical attention for his condition.
