Life and Work
Winters Tracey was born and raised in San Diego California, the youngest child of a German refugee and an American Southerner. Her father was a Biochemist and her mother was a Secretary. Winters Tracey’s mother had fled Nazi Germany in 1938 to avoid being sent to a concentration camp for her protests against the Nazi regime. Her father went to college on the GI Bill and owned his own lab ,.
Winters Tracey attended Clairemont High School and enrolled at Mesa College where she earned her degree in accounting in 1984,.
In 1988 she accepted a job with the Tax Collector’s office in San Diego. She worked there for 10 years until ill health from the effects of diabetes forced her to retire. She then started poetry writing as a hobby and has kept on writing ever since. Diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1999, she underwent brain surgery in 2004 at Barrows Institute in Phoenix. Her fourth book Date Palms and Arizona Skies is dedicated to her neurosurgeon Dr. Timothy Harrington. She spent five hours on the operating room table. On November 16 1999, Winters Tracey married her husband Chip Allen Tracey. The couple recently celebrated their 10th anniversary. Winters Tracey wrote a poem entitled Anniversaries to commemorate this occasion. Her husband is her unofficial editor and encourager of her work. They traveled from California to Mesa Arizona in 2002 in order to be in a dryer climate to improver her husband’s health. He had contracted Valley Fever in 2000 and nearly died. In 2004 he developed a near fatal attack of the disease. He lost ¾ of his right lung and was in a coma for 7 weeks.,.
Winters Tracey awards the “Van Gogh Award for Artistic Excellence”. This award has been granted to applicants from all over the world including all the continents and many countries including applicants from Australia, Greece, Kenya, Tanzania, Brazil, New Zealand, Norway and Finland. She has received many awards for her works most notably for Ethnic Cleansing published in her book Date Palms and Arizona Skies.
In July 2009 she went on a vacation for the first time in 7 years and wrote a plethora of travel poetry which she used to complete her latest poetry book Empire Palms and Streams of Time,.
Her husband and she have no biological children. However, they do have a cat born in 2001 by the name of Lilly. They are both extremely devoted to their cat and spoil her outrageously,.
Top 100 Poetry Forums
In 2002 Winters Tracey began using the internet as a place to post her poetry, both for critique and opinion. She began to notice that there were top sites on various subjects with listings under different categories. However, Winters Tracey did not find any poetry forum top sites. In 2003 she founded the Top 100 Poetry Forums Top Site. There were a few rules and guidelines for members to follow. Chiefly that every member must be a Poetry Forum.. Second that no site could bar participants simply because they were new members thus keeping cliques out of the group. The Top 100 Poetry site was slow to catch on at first but today 89 forums have joined.
