Paul Broglio, a native of Lorain, Ohio, was a 5'11" 220 lb offensive lineman who played college and professional football. High school In high school, Broglio played for the Massillon Tigers and was coached by Paul Brown. Paul was a very respected man around the Massillon High School campus. College Broglio played for Ohio State, Memphis, and Maryland. He was one of the toughest players, and may have been the toughest, on the 1948 Maryland Terrapin Football Team. Paul was probably the unsung hero, as he blocked for Lou Gambino and was coached by the famous Jim Tatum. Paul had gone to several different colleges. Paul played his first year at Ohio State with Paul Brown, then transferred over to Memphis, went to the Cherry Point Marines because of WWII, and was then recruited by Al Woods and Al Hagey to become a Maryland Terrapin. Broglio was such an outstanding player that both Al Woods and Al Hagey took a visit up to Ohio just to recruit Paul. Paul played three positions: Offensive Line, Defensive Line, and Kicker. In those days it was both ways. If you can ask the guys on the 1948 Maryland Football team what Paul was famous for, it was kicking the ball over the fire department at practice. Paul Broglio was one of Paul Brown's best players ever. NFL Broglio signed a deal with the Washington Redskins, but broke his leg in an automobile accident and was put on the injured list, and then, due to injury, could not play.
