Patrick Joseph Falterman II (March 16, 1990 - September 3, 2016) was an American itinerant, travel writer, and canoeist. He was most well known for his writings about hitchhiking and canoeing in Central and South America, and was the creator and writer on "HitchTheWorld.com", where he wrote detailed accounts of his travels. Amazon In 2012, Falterman began canoeing in the Amazon Basin, and traveled for a time by a handmade log raft. He paddled more than 4,000 km in a locally-acquired wooden canoe up twenty Amazonian rivers over the course of two years. Death On September 3, 2016, Falterman was piloting a single-engine plane with friend Zach Esters over the Trinity River. Witnesses said that it appeared he was doing stunts, including a barrel roll when the plane's engine stalled and crashed into the river. Neither pilot Falterman or passenger Esters survived the crash.
