Patricia Van Pelt Watkins

Patricia Van Pelt Watkins (born November 12, 1957) is an African-American community activist and candidate for Mayor of Chicago in the Chicago mayoral election, 2011.
Background
She was raised in the Cabrini Green housing projects on the Near North Side of Chicago, then moved to the south side and attended Fenger High School. Patricia began her professional life as a steelworker on the South Side, where she was a union steward. She received her associates degree from Truman College, bachelors from Roosevelt University, masters from Spertus Jewish Institute and PhD in Not-for profit management from the online Capella University. and co-founding the 300-member Ambassadors of Christ Church in Chicago’s Auburn-Gresham neighborhood. She founded and was director of the Target Area Development Corp., a community organization.
Originally obscured by a very perceived support that other candidates have, in particular Carol Moseley Braun, who shares a very similar base within the African American community with Watkins.
