David J Parks

David Joseph Parks is an American politician and a member of the Republican Party. Mr. Parks was born in Palmer, Alaska on May 27, 1981. He a lifelong Alaskan and is recognized by the Alaska Journal of Commerce and Anchorage Chamber of Commerce as one of Alaska's "Top Forty Under 40", the youngest Alaskan to ever receive that distinction. Mr. Parks was appointed to the University of Alaska Board of Regents by Governor Frank Murkowski and served a two-year term from 2003-2005. Parks worked on the Ray Mala project with other notable Alaskans in an ongoing statewide effort to document the life of Alaska's first and only major movie star.

Education
Mr. Parks holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Alaska Anchorage and a Masters of Arts in Rural Development from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Parks currently serves as the President of the University of Alaska Anchorage Alumni Association and is the past UA-Anchorage student body President (2002-03) and Vice President (2001-02). He is a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Work History
Parks is the current executive director of the statewide non-profit Alaska Community Share. He is the former campaign director and executive director of United Way of Mat-Su and has worked in the United States Senate as both an intern and as a staff member in Washington, DC. He was also a member of the statewide campaign staff of United States Senator Lisa Murkowski. He considers himself one of Alaska's leading Young Republicans despite never being elected to public office.

Miscellena
Mr. Parks is a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Boat Captain and worked two summers along the Yentna River in rural Alaska as a fishing guide for the world famous Riversong Lodge. He is a graduate of the Alaska Humanities Forum "Leadership Anchorage" community development program, and of the prestigious Washington, DC political think tank The Leadership Institute. He also served as a delegate to the "Conference of Young Alaskans".
