P. M. Jayatilaka

P. M. Jayatilaka was a Sri Lanka Academic and an educationist.
Early life and education
He was born in Negombo, his father was a well-known Ayurvedic (native medicine) physician and his mother was Clara Garlin de Silva. His only sister was the late Deshabandu Dr Wimala de Silva, founder of Devi Balika Vidyalaya Colombo.
Jayatilaka started his schooling at Newstead Girls’ School, Negombo and later on attended Wesley College, Colombo, Mahinda College. For his secondary studies he attended Nalanda College, Colombo, where he captained the school's first XI cricket team from 1927 to 1928. In 1928 he became the first player to score a century in the Ananda-Nalanda big match series, making 111 runs for Nalanda.
Teaching career
After graduating he started teaching career at a school in Negombo and then joined St Peter's College, Colombo. Later he became the first principal of Ibbagamuwa Central College, Kurunegala. In 1967 P. M. Jayatilaka was appointed as the principal of Thurstan College, Colombo.
