Oxted hockey club

Oxted Hockey Club is based in Oxted, Surrey, England. Formed of 4 men's hockey teams, 1 development side, 2 ladies teams with 2 vets sides, we provide training of high standard for adults of all ability that are willing to play, and also training for a number of junior sides, ranging from a few five year olds to our under eighteens.
History
Oxted Hockey Club was first formed as a ladies club in 1936. This was because hockey was seen as a sport for women. During the war, the club was abandoned until 1948 when it was reformed. Shortly after this, it became both a male and female club
Before the Astroturf Pitch was built at Oxted School in 1998, Oxted's main pitches were the grassy slopes of Bushy Croft in Old Oxted. This ground contained two pitches, a clubhouse with adjoining changing rooms, a bar, and a children's playground. The clubhouse now is the Royal British Legion in Oxted.

A former GB international Calum Giles joined Oxted in around 1999 when Oxted were in the lower Surrey Hampshire Leagues. In 6 seasons Calum took the 1st team from strength to strength winning 4 leagues and 3 surrey cups in a row taking us to the South Premier division. In 2003 another former GB player joined Oxted as coach. Duncan Woods. That season was not a great one for Oxted as they narrowly avoided relegation. In the 2004/2005 season Oxted got back on track winning South Prem and being promoted into the English National League. Reece Basson, a South African international joined the club.
In our first season of National League, Calum left to join his childhood club of Havant. New player coach, Justin King, South African International with over 200 goals joined, along with Ken Forbes, South African Vice Captain.
