Royal Marines A.F.C.

Royal Marines Amateur Football Club is a football club based in Exmouth, Devon, England. Established in 2008, the club started its first season in the South West Peninsula League Division One East.

History
The Royal Marines have had at least three previous teams. The first, RMLI Gosport (Royal Marines Light Infantry), won the FA Amateur Cup in 1909-10, beating South Bank (Middlesbrough), 2-1.

FA Amateur Cup success has not been repeated since, with a second team, Royal Marines Artillery, being knocked out in the quarter-finals of the 1921-22 cup.

In 1923, RMLI Gosport renamed themselves RM Portsmouth and entered the FA Cup two seasons running, in 1925-26 and 1926-27. They failed to get further than third qualifying round on both occasions.

This was followed by a fourth team, Royal Marines Chatham, who also failed to get past the third qualifying round of the FA Cup, in the 1929-30 season. This team went on to play in the Kent League from 1946 to 1950, finishing bottom of the league for the last three seasons.
