Ottawa Independent Writers

The Ottawa Independent Writers (OIW) is a not-for-profit  organization representing and serving the literary community in the National Capital Region (Ottawa-Gatineau) in Canada.
Founded in 1986, the OIW is a literary arts presenter, provides professional development to established and emerging writers, is a major funder and organizer of the Prose in the Park Literary Festival, sponsors an annual writers retreat, funds and administers the Frank Hegyi Award for Emerging Writers, and publishes an annual anthology of short fiction and poetry. The OIW was co-founded by Ottawa novelists and poets Blaine Marchand and Clive Doucet .

The OIW holds its monthly meetings at the Hintonburg Community Centre in Ottawa, Canada.
