Otis Wiley

Otis Wiley Jr. (Born May 29, 1987 in Flint, Michigan) is an American Football Safety who is currently a free agent.
Early Years
Otis Wiley went to high school at Carman-Ainsworth High School where he played basketball and football and track. He was also active in the theater program. He was a three-year starter at free safety and wide receiver for Coach Jerry Parker. As a junior, he had 86 tackles and seven interceptions Rivals.com ranked him 37th among the nation's top safties his senior year. He was named to the Prep Football Report's, SuperPrep's and PrepStar's All-Midwest Teams. He was also ranked among the state's top seniors by the Detroit Free Press (No. 8), Rivals.com (No. 11), The Detroit News (No. 12) and Lansing State Journal (No. 12). He also earned all-state selection, recording 78 tackles and five interceptions, and 20 receptions for 380 yards with five touchdowns. In track he finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 38.87 seconds at the 2004 state meet.
College Football
Otis Wiley played Safety and returned punts for the Spartans. His jersey number was 21. He had nine career interceptions and two touchdowns in his collegiate career. He played in 47 career games, including 31 starts. His 161 career interception yards ranks eighth in MSU history.
2005 season
In 2005, Wiley appeared in 10 games. He had 18 tackles an interception and a forced fumble, but mostly played on special teams.
2006 season
in 2006, as a sophomore, Wiley was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection by the media. He won the MSU Downtown Coaches Club Award, which is given to Michigan State's most outstanding defensive player. He led the Spartans in tackles, with 94, also ranked seventh in the Big Ten. He had his first career start against Idaho, where he had 12 tackles.
2007 season
In 2007, as a Junior, Wiley played in all 13 games, including seven starts. He led the team in interceptions (4) and ranked seventh in the Big Ten. He finished with 49 tackles.
2008 season
Wiley's breakout season was in 2008, as a senior. He helped lead the Spartans to a 10-3 record and a BCS bowl bid. He was named one of four captains by his teammates. He was a consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection by coaches and media. His 4 interceptions ranked 2nd in the Big Ten. He finished third on the team with 78 tackles. He was one of 13 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award. He was also a Midseason All-America selection by CollegeFootballNews.com (first team) and SI.com (second team).
Professional career
Pre-Draft
Otis Wiley was considered one of the top Strong Safeties in college football by NFL Draft scout. He was projected to be drafted in the 5th round of the NFL Draft. He was one of 3 MSU players to be invited to the NFL combine, along with Quarterback Brian Hoyer and RB Javon Ringer.
Detroit Lions
Wiley was not drafted. However, he was signed to the Detroit Lions as an undrafted-Free Agent. He was then released from the team after failing a physical, due to a knee injury.
Personal
Wiley is the son of Otis Wiley, Sr. and Jacqueline Wiley. He graduated in 2009 with a Family Community Services degree.
