Oscar Orenstein

Oscar Orenstein (25 February 1911, Midland, Ontario - 22 April 1978) was a Canadian politician and artist. He studied art at the Ontario College of Art, The American Artists School in New York City, and elsewhere. During World War II he designed sets for the Canadian Army. Orenstein has exhibited his work in New York City, Montreal and Toronto. While living in Schumacher he ran the Porcupine Art Gallery and the Northern Art Gallery Little Gallery. He ran for mayor of Ottawa, Ontario, in 1972. Relatives *Ian Orenstein, Oscar's younger son, is a New Democratic Party politician who ran for mayor in 1978 in memory of his father. *David Norman Orenstein, Oscar's older son, is a high school teacher and math and astronomy expert. *Orenstein (Joan Orenstein sister-in-law, Henry Orenstein younger brother) *Stan Pearl, Oscar's oldest nephew, was eighth Principal of University of Toronto Schools |
