Optifly is an internet-based flight planning tool developed by Atama Group, LLC. It operates out of Saint Louis, Missouri. The flight planning tool is the first travel assistance site to offer an interactive visualization to display flight routes within Google Maps and Google Earth. The site displays both commercial airlines like American Airlines and Delta and low-cost carrier airlines like Southwest, AirAsia, and RyanAir. Since most other travel booking sites do not offer budget airlines, Optifly gives users the opportunity to link to these airlines to check prices after viewing all possible flight routes and available legs. Optifly also allows users to input a connection location to easily force through a specific hub. The site also allows users to include nearby origins and destinations for their routes. And like most other travel booking sites, they return both one-way and roundtrip search results. The interactive routes interface is presented within Google Maps. Users have the option of downloading Google Earth and its additional plug-in to view their routes in 3D. Especially helpful in understanding international route options, the visualization developed by Atama Group, LLC for Optifly is based on advanced technology and algorithms. Officially launched in mid-April of 2009, Optifly is a new flight planning tool. The site has no affiliation with Expedia, though they do offer links to Expedia prices.
