"Open and Shut" is the sixth episode in the third season of the American crime drama CSI: NY. The episode first aired on October 25, 2006. Plot The CSIs investigate the death of a hotel worker, who fell from the atrium onto a spike. While investigating, they hear two gunshots and rush to the scene. It seems to be an "Open and Shut" self-defense case, when they discover a woman who has apparently shot a man in defense of her husband. Upon further investigation, the CSIs determine that the woman really killed her own husband and framed the other man. Trivia The second crime scene found is based on the Mark Winger case, where Mark Winger killed his wife and Richard Harrington and framed the latter for the first murder. In the episode it's the other way around: instead the husband is driven home from the airport by the crazed victim and is hammered by his wife. The real case was solved due to the positioning of the victims that did not consist with the statement of Mark Winger. Winger stated that his wife was hammered by Harrington and he shot Harrington which made him fall back. So the bodies were opposite to each other (feet to head); however, the preliminary Polaroids taken showed that the bodies where lying in the same direction and not the other way around (feet point downwards to the kitchen). This could only mean that Harrington was shot first from the kitchen and then the wife was hammered to death.
