OneTick

OneTick© is an enterprise solution for tick data management and market data analytics developed by OneMarketData. It is designed specifically for the capital markets business - investment banks, hedge funds, asset managers and proprietary trading firms. It seamlessly incorporates a proprietary high performance time series database, real-time complex event processing (CEP) engine and financial analytics. OneTick provides a flexible, asset-class neutral market data capture, storage and analysis solution as well as reference data for financial institutions' needs across a variety of use cases inclusive of quantitative research, trade decision modeling and transaction cost analysis (TCA) for both real-time and historical data.
OneTick was designed specifically to address the requirements of the financial sector. It is content-aware of trades, quotes and complex Order Book structures and has the flexibility to support all asset classes, order executions and unstructured news data. It provides features to manage corporate actions, exchange calendars, mapping symbols across exchanges, dynamic symbols (i.e. contracts) and cancellations and corrections.
OneTick provides a means to graphically model a query using an acyclic directed graph paradigm. Thus sophisticated queries can be constructed without knowledge of any programming language. Queries can be run against real-time streaming, historical data or a logically stitched view of real-time and history, essentially as a single time continuum.
The need for high-performance tick databases continues to grow as traders continue to move towards electronic and algorithmic trading. Additionally, new best execution requirements driven by Reg. NMS and MiFID have increased the need for institutions to manage large amounts of real-time data in transparent environments that adhere to new compliance requirements. As such, tick databases such as OneTick have become more popular and important within the financial technology landscape.
History
OneTick was launched in 2005 by Leonid Frants, Ph.D., who has spent more than 15 years building enterprise financial data management systems for statistical arbitrage, algorithmic trading and program trading departments of Goldman Sachs.
After building the financial data management system to support the quantitative data needs for the entire sell side of Goldman Sachs, he founded OneMarketData to build OneTick, a commercial platform that would become a single point solution to tick data management, real-time complex event processing (CEP) and analytics in financial institutions.

Today, OneTick is used worldwide by financial institutions spanning the buy-side, sell-side and academia. Customers include Tudor Funds, Scottrade, Credit Suisse, Galiam Capital Management, SIX Financial (Telekurs), Societe Generale, CMC Markets, Goral Trading, Instinet, Jefferies, NYSE Technologies, Miami International Exchange (MIAX), Trading Screen, Wolverine Trading, Man Investments, Vegasoul Capital Management, Gelber, LINZ AG, QuantHouse, Columbia University, Oxford University, Stevens Institute and more.
Key features
OneTick processes millions of ticks per second per CPU core, archives billions of ticks per day and massively scales across multi-core CPUs and clustered server deployments. It can handle rising data volumes and real-time data rates, while servicing multiple concurrent user queries on large datasets, even the massive Options OPRA feed peaking at 4 millions ticks per second (2011. OneTick is a Big Data for Finance platform. OneTick can collect every tick for all asset classes, including equities, fixed income, futures, FX and options including full order book data. It stores and analyzes all kinds of data uniformly, including tick data, reference data and elementized news.
Through OneTick’s built-in CEP engine, users can write code only one time for real-time and historical data analysis, as well as implement live signal generation for strategies that require streaming and historical data without extra coding.
OneTick standardizes and cleanses data through its built-in data concept handling for corrects/cancels, corporate actions, symbol maps and continuity, and futures rolls/exchange calendars.
OneTick includes a powerful GUI for visualization and intuitive built-in business logic for query building and analysis. It allows users to run queries and analytics on both real-time streaming and historical data, and comes with more than 100 preprogrammed functions for aggregating, filtering and transforming data. Visual modeling lets users semantically assemble these functions for:
* Algorithmic, low-touch and program trading
* Real-time risk management
* Statistical arbitrage and market making
* Transaction cost analysis
* Regulatory compliance and surveillance
OneTick also includes real-time and historical feed handlers to many popular market data providers.
