One Step Shift

One Step Shift was a three-piece (bass, drums, and guitar) band based in Oakland, California, USA.
During the eight years that the band was together (from 1999 to 2007) it released four albums (on Brokeinoakland) and one seven inch (on Loderbrock), embarked on a US tour, several regional tours and a Pacific Northwest tour that included British Columbia. The band made several appearances on the radio program KALX Live and was known for their unique sound and energetic performances. Although largely unclassifiable, One Step Shift's music has been categorized by some as Mathcore:

"The band plays Mathcore if you want to label the music . . . " (Stakerized! , Voice of Reason)

or Math Rock:

"this math rock seems guided and purposeful." (Maximum Rock and Roll #242).
