One-eyed Willy is a background character in the 1985 film The Goonies, created by Steven Spielberg. Never directly appearing on screen, the life of One-eyed Willy takes place before the events of the film and provides the basis for the adventure. He was a pirate from the 17th century who finally hides his treasure on the western coast of North America, in or around Astoria, Oregon, the setting of the film.
Because of the main character's father occupation as a museum curator, he has occasion to store artifacts in his attic. The characters in the film discover amongst these artifacts a map that the believe leads to the treasure of One-eyed Willy. Apparently One-eyed Willy and/or his crew have left the approaches in the caves filled with various booby traps, to protect caches of treasure and a main alcove where his ship is docked. The treasure includes gold, precious gems, and antiques.
The characters find a skeleton at the helm of the ship, which they refer to as the remains of One-eyed Willy.
