On Center Software

On Center Software, Inc., or often just On Center is a construction industry software provider with 60 employees based in The Woodlands, Texas. It develops, licenses and supports applications tailored to the specific needs of small, medium and large construction businesses.

“(Founder and C.E.O., Leonard) Buzz, has been working on construction software for decades. A native Texan, he joined the Carpenter’s Local in Austin and became a journeyman walls-and-ceilings contractor. He worked as a foreman and eventually became an estimator. In 1981, Buzz says he was ‘one of the first guys standing in line at the computer store with $3,000 for an IBM PC with two floppy drives and a green screen.’ He began tinkering with his own estimating applications, (and) eventually hired a software developer and in 1988 launched QuickBid, an estimating program tailored to Divisions 5-10 contractors.

In time, Buzz released On Center’s On-Screen Takeoff, which has the ability to link an estimator’s job-cost data to computers used in the field. The license for this link is DPC (Digital Production Control), which Buzz has been beta-testing in the industry.”

Today, On Center offers a full MS Windows-based suite of applications that include On-Screen Takeoff™, Quick Bid, Digital Production Control, and Report Builder, the company’s latest beta query and reporting application. On Center’s primary goal is to move the construction industry up to current technology standards by eliminating paper blueprint plans and manual processes.

Though based in the United States, On Center has business partners that act as distribution channels in Asia, Australia, Canada, Malaysia, New Zealand, Panama, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. In addition to international business partners, On Center also has US satellite offices in Cleveland, Ohio, Austin, Texas, and Richmond, Texas.

In 2003, On Center assembled an academic program to benefit construction education. Currently, On Center has 152 programs in 119 schools using On-Screen Takeoff and/or Quick Bid. Participating schools are located in the US, Australia, Mexico, and Canada, and include 2-year, 4-year, and technical colleges and universities such as: Texas A&M University, Brigham Young University, and Purdue University.
