Olabisi Johnson

Chief Olabisi Johnson FCPA. FIMEA. FCIM., popularly known as OJ Wonder, born (Johnson Olabisi November 22, 1955), in Ondo City, Ondo State, Nigeria to Late Pa Joseph Akinto Olabisi and Late Madam Fatumo Olabisi is a Nigerian philanthropist, politician, and administrator. He was the Chairman, Ondo State Local Government Service Commission from 2003 to 2009 and won the award of the best Local Service Commission in Ondo State from inception. The award was presented by the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). He is a founding father of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State. He also holds the chieftaincy title of the Omunutun of Ondo Kingdom.
Background
The young Johnson attended St. Matthews Catholic Primary School, Oke-Igbala, Ondo and Independence Grammar School, Oka, Ondo. He did his HSC at Christ's School Ado Ekiti and proceeded to the University of Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile Ife where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. He later obtained a Masters in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Ado-Ekiti (Now Ekiti State University). Johnson did a brief stint with Steve Richards Nigeria Ltd, Ikeja, Lagos between 1975 and 1976. He joined the services of NITEL, Akure in 1976 and was there till 1979. He did his NYSC at Okeh Secondary School, Elele, Port Harcourt in 1985 where he was the principal of the college. Johnson is also the MD/CEO of First Mland Global Investments; a company he founded in the early 90s
Early Political Career
Johnson began his political career in the early 80s. At the age of 32, in 1987, he became the Councillor representing Ward 4 in the old Ondo Local Government. Olabisi was the youngest Councillor with a university degree in Ondo Kingdom at that time. He later served as the local government secretary of the Peoples Solidarity Party (PSP) between 1988 and 1989. Olabisi Johnson joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 1989 and became the local government secretary of the party. In 1990, he was elected the state assistant secretaryof the SDP. In 1991, he was appointed as the Secretary to Ondo Local Government and he was the Supervisor for Agriculture in 1993 . Olabisi was the state secretary of the Ondo Central Forum between 1994-1996 - Ondo Central Forum was a group of notable politicians who clamored for the development of the old Ondo state (now Ondo and Ekiti State). In 1996, he was elected as the chairman of the Old Ondo Local Government (now Ondo West & East LGs). He was instrumental to the splitting of the Ondo local government into two LGAs (Ondo West & East). As chairman of the local government, Johnson was known to always attend the Ondo kingdom community square (Ugha) at least once a month to brief the community on the income of the local government and sought their advice on the projects to embark on after deducting staff salaries and running grants. He was commended by the Ondo Royal Council for his transparency and was conferred with the Omunutun of Ondo kingdom chieftaincy title. He became the last Chairman of the old Ondo Local Government (Now Ondo East and West Local Government Areas) and first chairman of Ondo West Local Government in 1996 . He joined the United National Congress Party (UNCP) in 1996 and was the state legal adviser from 1996-1998 .
Later Political Career
In 1998, Johnson Olabisi and other notable Ondo State politicians launched the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State . Olabisi spearheaded the formation of the PDP in Ondo kingdom and has been with the party ever since then . He was the pioneer PDP Ondo Central Senatorial Chairman and Vice-Chairman from 1998 to 2003. Following the victory of the PDP in the 1999 polls, Olabisi Johnson was appointed by former president Olusegun Obasanjo as a board member of Nigeria's National Insurance Commission from 2000 to 2004 In 2003, the late Dr. Olusegun Agagu (former governor of Ondo State) appointed him as chairman, Ondo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC); a position he held till 2009 . During his time as the chairman of the LGSC, Olabisi is reputed to have initiated the largest civil service employment drive in the history of the state. Tens of thousands of Ondo State citizens were employed into both the Local Government Service and the State Civil Service structures. . This earned him the sobriquet "Father of Employment".
In 2013, he was appointed by former president Goodluck Jonathan as a member of the board of the Federal Medical Center, Bida where he served till 2015 when he resigned to contest as a Member of the Federal House of Representatives to represent the Ondo West/East Federal Constituency . In July 2018, Olabisi Johnson declared his intention to contest as a senator representing the Ondo Central senatorial district.
Personal Life
Johnson Olabisi is married to Olutoyin Olabisi and they have four children; Olawale, Olufunmilayo, Olusegun, & Ayomikun.
