Mose Jones Jr.

Mose Jones Jr. was born on March 28, 1952 to Mose Jones Sr. and Annie Lucille Jones, the fifth of an eventual nine children. The family lived as sharecroppers in Town Creek, a small community in northern Alabama. Town Creek.
Biography
Mose Jones, Jr. is an American politician who is the Chairman of the Lawrence County Alabama Democratic Conference (ADC) for the last 25 years, he is a board member of North Central AL Regional Council of Government for 30 years and the Rotating Chairman of the Board of the Lawrence County Commissioners having served eight 4-year terms. He has served as an ordained deacon and Member of Red Bank MB Church of Town Creek AL for the last 25 years.
Mose graduated at Hazelwood High school in 1971, he also Attended County Commission College and was Certified with Associate Degree in Government. He retired from 3M in 2008 after 36 years of service. Mose is married to his wife of 43 years and they are blessed with five children, four grandchildren alongside two daughters-in-law
Mose is the first black to be elected as the commissioner of the Lawrence County Commission of District 1, he was elected to office in December 1985 and he has been the commissioner from January 1986 till present. He is the first and only black member of Lawrence County Commission with the highest years of impactful and quality service. He has Won 8 consecutive elections unopposed in 2010, with only one runoff in 2014, which was easily won. Mose is a member at large of the State Democratic, he served as the chairman of the 4th district of ADC and Lawrence County ADC, he is an Ex facto member (at-large) of the State Democratic Party.
Political career
• Elected to office in December 1985 as the first black Commissioner which took effect from January 1986 till the pres- ent. A total of 30 years in service
• Won 8 consecutive elections unopposed in 2010, with only one runoff in 2014, which was easily won

Accomplishments as a County Commissioner
• First Black in Lawrence County Commission (elected December 1985, to get sworn into office January 1986)
• Secured a grant to build a community park-Red Bank Community Park and Walking Trail
• Paved roads in district 1, estimated 120 miles of new payment 40, miles of county roads and roads named after 3 Vietnam Veterans
• Worked in collaboration with commissioners of each Lawrence County districts to accomplish the following:
o enabled construction of new buildings for the health department, department of human resources, courthouse, county jail, farmer’s market in Lawrence Coun- ty, computers for the courthouse; and, voted by resolution to accept the Jesse Owens Park as a city park.
• The first and only black member of Lawrence County Com- mission with the highest years of impactful and quality service
As a commissioner in Lawrence County, Jones was a member of the Board of Directors for the North Central Alabama Regional Council of Government (NARCOG). This organization is made up of the elected officials of Lawrence, Cullman, and Morgan counties.
Commissioner Jones helped adopt the largest operating budget in County history in 1998.

Family
Spouse- Ella Mae (Reed) Jones, married since January 20, 1973 with five children, Shaffer T. Jones, Christopher D. Jones, Sharona E. Jones, Dr. April L. Jones, and Jalisa Jones. Four grandchildren Alliyah Jones, Jaylynn Jones, Tyra Jones, and Tory Jones. Two daugther-in-laws, Veronica Jones (Christopher) and Tamela Jones (Shaffer).
