Odell Terry

Odell Terry is a former US Marine and a Judo competitor. He was a six degree black belt in Judo. Odell for many years lived in Brooklyn, NY. Odell is a former US Marine and was stationed in Okinawa. It was during his time in the Marines that he started Judo.
Judo
Odell was a 2nd degree black belt in Judo in 1965. That year he would face the likes of Mel Applebaum at the North Easter United States Judo Championships. In the 1965 St. John's Recreational Center invitational, Odell would win the 180lbs and below division. In the 5th annual East Coast North-South Tournament, Odell was able to limit Judo Bronze Medalist Jim Bregman to a win via decision. Odell Terry was the silver medalist He would be in the finals against Hayward Nishioka. Odell would compete in the 1967 NY Invitational with teammate and 1976 Olympic Bronze Medalist Allan Coage. In 1967, Odell would earn a silver against Hayward Nishioka at the U.S. Air Force Judo championships. It was stated in 1969 that Odell was too modest to grab some of the sunlight blessed on others of less quality. In 1973, Odell would face Munich Olympian Jimmy Wooley, in a match where Jimmy would sustain a serious injury.
Masters Level Judo
In 2007, Odell in his early 60's, would earn a second place finish at the USA Judo International Masters Championships. In 2013, Odell won first place in the two person 2013 USA Judo Senior Nationals 100kg Masters 9 (70-74 years old) Division. This would earn him a place in the Team USA Masters Roster. In 2014, Odell would also win first place in the same division of the 2014 Senior National Championships.
