Obioma Success Akagburuonye

Obioma Success Akagburuonye (born February 1966) is a Nigerian lawyer, real estate entrepreneur, civil engineer, politician and philanthropist. Akagburuonye advocated for the decongestion of Nigerian prisons through mitigation of stringent bail conditions, leading to a Nigerian Court of Appeal decision in February 2005.
Early life
Akagburuonye was born on February 22, 1966 to Nehemiah Akagburuonye Amuchie and Nneoma Monica Nwafor Akagburuonye, from Umuoshike Ogbor Uvuru in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State. For his primary education, he attended Town School Ogbor from 1974 to 1980. He then attended Oke-Ovoro Secondary School in Uvuru, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area (1980 to 1985), as well as Government Secondary School Ihugh in Vandeikiya Local Government Area, Benue State. He holds both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Civil Engineering, as well as degrees in Law—namely, Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Barrister at Law (BL), and Master of Laws (LLM) from the Kogi State University, Anyigba, Kogi State. He established Praco International Company in 1996, with interests in civil engineering and real estate.
In the early 2000s, he established Psalm 127 Limited; Peace Be Still Hotel and transport company; Canaan Side; Obisco Plastics; Flourishing Links; Well Connected Investments Limited, Oburu na Jehovah Echeghi Obodo Shopping Plaza amongst others.
Law
Akagburuonye is a lawyer with the Nigerian Bar Association.
In the case, “Obioma vs. Federal Republic of Nigeria, 13 WRN 2005”, he fought against overcrowding in Nigerian prisons resulting from stringent bail conditions. This led to a Nigerian Court of Appeal decision to mitigate bail conditions in February 2005. Akagburuonye solicited for south-east Nigeria to be industrialized by its own people in a scheme known as “Aku ruo Ulo”. After a nineteen years legal battle in which many of his lands were seized and structures demolished by the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA), judgment was entered in his favour by the Federal High Court of Nigeria in 2022.
He was called to the Nigerian bar on January 17, 2012 by the Council of Legal Education.
Politics
Akagburuonye was the gubernatorial candidate for Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the Imo State elections in 2019.
Philanthropy
Akagburuonye has donated to individual causes. He facilitated a one million dollar church building designed in the form of Noah’s Ark at Ogbor Uvuru, attracting the former president of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, to its commissioning. He  created the Akaraugo Football Competition, a yearly event. He is the founder and national president of the Global Support for Nigeria, a relief center for unemployed graduates in Nigeria.
