Nigel Leat was a teacher at Hillside First School in Weston-super-Mare and was jailed indefinitely in summer 2011 for Paedophile offenses which happened continually during a 14 year period. The case is notable because very many adults expressed concern over Leat but no action was taken over 14 years, abuse even took place during lessons in front of other pupils. The trial judge called him a "paedophile of the most sickening order". According to Tony Oliver, chair of North Somerset Safeguarding Children Board:- , "There was a failure at every level within the school. The fact that these incidents were reported within the school and not acted upon is incredible. Headmaster Chris Hood lost his job over the incident.
