Nicky Katapa Mutenda (born April 14, 1988 in Katima Mulilo, Namibia) is a Namibian student and youth activist. He is the Deputy Secretary General of the Namibia National Students Organisation (NANSO) and a former Vice President of the Student Representative Council of the University of Namibia. Ministry of Education In July 2009, Mutenda accused the Namibia Student Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF), a fund created to assist students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pay for their tertiary education fees, of “failing the students and the nation at large” by “failing to do their work”. He lashed out at the Fund, saying “the rank and file of NANSO, the students of Namibia, have absolutely no confidence in the NSFAF management and we call upon them to resign from their positions.” Speaking at a media conference in Windhoek, Mutenda welcomed the N$6.5 billion for 2010/11 allocated to the Education Ministry arguing that it was a clear indication of the government's commitment to higher education. Mutenda also described the allocation as clear proof of strong political will to make Namibia's education system the best in the world. Mutenda noted that with the biggest budgetary allocation, the Education Ministry should be in a position to address the high failure rate among school learners. He also called for the Ministry of Education to speedily implement the Education and Training Sector Improvement Programme and early childhood education. Caprivi Secessionists Trial Mutenda repeatedly called for reconciliation over the Caprivi secessionists rebellion of August 2, 1999. "Today about 116 people still awaits verdict on the secessionists uprising of August 2, 1999 and about 15 people have died in custody since the start of the trial in October 2003. The Caprivi trial is continuously dividing the region which allows political Entrepreneurs to divide the region further for their own political gain by using it as a tool to gainer votes and mislead the people of the region especially those whose relatives are in exile or imprisoned. I wish to call upon all peace loving and progressive Namibians and organisations to Join the fight for reconciliation in Caprivi region to strengthen peace and unity of purpose in our mother land- Namibia". Education Mutenda obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Namibia.
