After dropping out of school, he spent the next several years of his life working in the booming computer sector and created a comfortable living for himself. In June of 1999, he registered at Saddleback Valley College without having ever obtained a high school diploma or an equivalent. After 2 years at the community college in Mission Viejo, he transfered to The University of California at Berkeley where he studied Molecular & Cell Biology and Neurobiology. In May of 2001, he graduated with High Honors and a bachelor of arts from the UC Berkeley College of Letters and Sciences.

The next six years of his life were spent working in the business world in a field completely unrelated to his Bachelor's degree. He worked in the wireless sector for several years and eventually established his own consulting company called Simplified Retail Solutions, Inc (SRSi). SRSi specialized in retail training and recruitment. After successfully managing SRSi for 2 years, he took over a restaurant and brewery in Laguna Beach, Ca called The Laguna Beach Brewing Company. He later started a night club inside the restaurant called Blue Laguna which was an instant success. Blue Laguna and the Laguna Beach Brewing company were later sold and eventually closed. In August of 2007, he returned to school and relocated to Boston where he started medical school at Harvard Medical School.
