Joseph DeGiorgis

Joseph A. DeGiorgis, Ph.D. (born 1964) is an American marine biologist.
Education
DeGiorgis was raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1982. He then attended Florida Institute of Technology, and received a Bachelor of Science in marine ecology in 1986. He received his doctorate in cell and molecular biology from Brown University in 2001.
MBL
DeGiorgis was a researcher at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts for several years. During his time there he became involved in a project to sequence the squids' genome. In 2005, on a budget of $100,000, DeGiorgis was able to identify over 3,000 genes in the squid's genome which is believed to consist of over 35,000 genes.
Providence College
As of January 2009 DeGiorgis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Providence College where he specializes in neurobiology.
