New Zealand and Serbia maintain diplomatic relations established in 1951. From 1951 to 2006, New Zealand maintained relations with the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY) and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) (later Serbia and Montenegro), of which Serbia is considered shared (SFRY) or sole (FRY) legal successor. Economic relations Trade between two countries amounted to over 9 million in 2023; New Zealand's merchandise exports to Serbia were standing at roughly $6 million; Serbia's export to New Zealand were about $3 million. Immigration from Serbia There are 1,056 Serbs living in New Zealand, according to the 2013 Census. Serbian New Zealander of note is football player (born in New Zealand to Serbian father and Samoan mother), prominent member of who played two seasons for Serbian side Red Star Belgrade.
