Within New Orleans' 350.2 square miles of area, it has 140 + hotels in operation. These hotels range from boutique hotels like the Lafitte Hotel or the Queen & Crescent Hotel, to large tower hotels like the Hilton or the Sheraton.
Since the city is small, it is hard to find a hotel that is far away from an attraction or tourist destination. Many hotels are attractions themselves, like the Hotel Le Cirque, who has an exterior light display, or the many plantation homes that rent out rooms themselves.

Hurricane Katrina
During Hurricane Katrina, many hotels served to house government headquaters, news stations, police entities and the newly homeless and desolate. These hotels continued to house Katrina victims for a series of months, thanks to FEMA vouchers.
Now, years after the storm, a large number of hotels have performed vast rennovations, with new hotels now on the way. The Trump International Hotel and Tower is expected to be the tallest building in the Crescent City's skyline by the year 2009.
