Navin Hiranandani

Navin Lakhumal Hiranandani (January 8, 1940 - July 7, 2006) was a prominent Mumbai ENT Surgeon, was the son of Lakhumal Hiranand Hiranandani, and a famous doctor in his own right. Dr. Navin was an Honorary ENT surgeon and Professor of Otolaryngology and head-and-neck surgery at the BYL Nair Hospital in Mumbai, and attached to Bombay Hospital, Breach Candy Hospital, Jaslok Hospital, and the Dr. L H Hiranandani Hospital, with a reputation of successfully performing highly complicated ear operations.

Navin was found in his apartment having committed suicide by cutting his right upper arm on the morning of Friday, July 7, 2006. His wife, Sunita, was in an adjacent room. A note was found on the bedroom table with the words, "Heart attack, no publicity", in his own handwriting. He was not known to suffer from any heart ailments.
According to an author close to the Hiranandani family, (Ms. Subhadra Anand), Navin had suffered a repressed childhood, and suffered from depression for the last twenty years.
Navin lived in the sixth floor of Kanta Building in the Malabar Hill district of Bombay; his father lived on the fifth floor. Kanta Building is named for Navin's mother.
Besides his father, mother, and wife, he is survived by his son Sanjay, resident in the U.S.A., his two brothers, Niranjan and Surendra and their families, and two grandchildren.
Navin was cremated at the Chandanwadi Crematorium, and his ashes immersed in accordance with Hindu tradition by his son Sanjay and brother Surendra at the Banganga Tank.
