Naveed Anwar

Naveed Anwar is a politician from Saskatchewan, Canada. He is the current leader of the Saskatchewan Liberal Party, having taken up the role after his acclamation on May 5, 2018.
A tax consultant from Saskatoon, Anwar has run unsuccessfully several times for the office of Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), including as a candidate for the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party in the 2011 provincial election in the riding of Saskatoon Sutherland, where he came in second to the winning Saskatchewan Party MLA.
After being barred by the NDP from running again in the 2016 election because NDP leader Cam Broten wanted him to step down from contesting the nomination of Saskatoon Fairview against Vicki Mowat. Anwar switched parties and ran for the Liberals in the riding of Saskatoon Westview, going up against then-NDP leader Cam Broten. Anwar collected 235 votes (3% of the total), but was accused by some in the media of costing Broten his seat in the election, as he had lost re-election by just 232 votes.
