Adam DeVita

Adam DeVita (born February 21, 1976) is a Canadian politician and Engineer . He has served as the President of the Provincial Richmond Hill New Democratic Party (NDP) Riding Association and was the NDP candidate in the 2011 federal election for the Richmond Hill electoral district. He is the candidate in Richmond Hill for the 2011 provincial election.
Early life and education
Adam DeVita was born in Richmond Hill, Ontario on Feb 21, 1976. He received a Bachelor of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering and a Certificate in Preventative Engineering and Social Development from the University of Toronto. He is a practicing Engineer and a member of Professional Engineers Ontario. He is married and has one child.
Politics
As a teenager DeVita volunteered for the NDP in the 1990 byelection for the now-eliminated riding of York North. He joined the NDP as an official member in 1997 and since has been involved in numerous provincial and federal election campaigns.
DeVita was nominated as the NDP candidate for the Richmond Hill electoral riding in the 2011 federal election. Despite placing third in the historically Liberal riding, DeVita nearly doubled the NDP vote from the previous election. He obtained 16.9% of the total votes, a record high for the NDP in the riding and well in excess of the 10% threshold required for campaign expense reimbursement.
On July 22, 2011, he was elected as the as Ontario New Democratic Party's candidate in Richmond Hill for the 2011 provincial elections, defeating former mayoral candidate, Dr Abu Alam. <ref name="York3"/>
