The Natural Capital Institute (NCI) was a non-profit non-governmental organization with no academic accreditation (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/) based in Sausalito, CA. It was founded by the environmentalist, entrepreneur, journalist, and author Paul Hawken. Mission statement 1. To "describe pathways of change in books and research reports," 2. To "create tools for connecting the individuals, information, and organizations that create change." History - Created a database of NPO and NGOs addressing issues and working for clean water and sanitization. - Published a report which analyzed socially responsible investing (SRI). This report analyzed over 600 retail mutual funds. - Created the public-education website responsibility.investing.org, which was a database of socially responsible investing funds and what screening processes those funds use. Latest projects NCI created a community driven website Wiser.org in 2007. WISER stood for "World Index of Social and Environmental Responsibility". Wiser.org was an open source directory of the world's environmental and social justice NPOs and NGOs. The site closed in April 2014.
