Narine Arakelian (born May 13, 1979, based in Venice, Italy and Los Angeles, USA) is an emerging contemporary artist who creates performance art, installation, painting, sculpture, video and environmental art. Arakelian’s work with Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and social media connects virtuality with the grounded materialism and traditions of painting. Arakelian uses translation and a form of cultural overdubbing to effect a space of empathetic encounter. The artist’s exploration of feminism, identity and representation are filtered through interpersonal experience and empathetic response. Narine Arakelian is associated with of Empathy Aesthetics, integral to the Altermodern in the post pandemic era. Early Life and Education Narine Arakelian was born in Siberia, and is of Armenian descent. She graduated from the (2015) studying under Aidan Salakhova, Sergey Ossovsky and Yuri Shishkov. Career Arakelian’s exhibiting career in Russia was initiated by a series of exhibitions at the Moscow Contemporary Art Center Winzavod (curated by Aidan Salakhova), The Museum of Moscow, and at the Shchusev Museum of Architecture. In 2018 she presented the installation Glasses at Manifesta XII in Palermo, Italy. In 2019 Arakelin presented the performance “Love and Hope” for Art Basel Miami and Villa Versace.. In 2020 Arakelin exhibited in Los Angeles for Frieze Art Fair at Mash Gallery’s “A GoGo” and at the W Hollywood Hotel. The Venice Biennale, Italy (La Biennale di Venezia) In 2017 Narine Arakelian exhibited, L'Illusion du Mariage at the 57th Venice Biennale in the Scuola Grande di San Rocco. In 2019, Arakelian presented her performance “Cast Iron Pots and Pans” in the “Revolutionary Sensorium” at the Armenian Pavilion for the 58th Venice Biennale., in conjunction with the solo exhibition “The Pharos Flower” at the Palazzo Contarini del Bovolo, curated by Susanna Gyulamiryan in conjunction with the solo exhibition the multimedia installations Initiation, Confession and video Rebirth Subconscious and the performance Bloom where Arakelian transformed into a classic marble statue. “Revolutionary Sensorium”, 2019 The “Revolutionary Sensorium” was curated by Susanna Gyulamiryan for the Armenian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Bienniale.. “Cast Iron Pots and Pans” by Narine Arakelian, performed on the canals of Venice, commemorated the Velvet Revolution in Armenia in Spring 2018
