NAMF (Naturvidenskabelig mentorforening) is an organization run by mentors from the Faculty of Natural Science, at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. A mentor is a Danish student who helps exchange students finding their way around, once they arrive in Copenhagen.
The aim of NAMF is to create a network of international students and mentors, in the form of cultural and social exchange. Therefore several cultural and social activities are arranged to the benefit and joy of all, both the foreign students and their Danish mentors. The organisation is founded on volunteer work; there is no political, religious or any other agenda, only to exchange ideas, share experiences and to have fun.
NAMF functions as a loose network where suggestions for different activities are distributed by email. Following the persons, Danish mentors as foreign students, interested in the specific activity can join up at the meeting point. Also ‘non-natural science’ -friends are more than welcome.
The first event each semester is normally a small informative meeting about NAMF. This gives the chance to meet the new students of the semester and tell them about the activities during their stay in Copenhagen.
During September/October and February/March, a weekend-trip to Brorfelde is usually held. Brorfelde is an old observatory in the beautiful countryside in the central part of Zealand. Examples of other typical events include: Trip to the Viking museum and the cathedral in Roskilde, Picnics, Pub-Crawl at university bars, visits at museums in and around Copenhagen, parties, visits at Christiansborg (the parliament) and Christiania (the hippie community), 1st of May in Fælledparken, Bowling.
