Naaltsoos Ayiilaa (also credited as Naaltsoos Áyiilaa) is a nonexistent person, presumably Navajo, listed in several book catalogs as the co-author for the Navajo editions of children's books by Brian Wildsmith. The listing is due to a misunderstanding where the the word naaltsoos ("book") was interpreted as a given name and the word áyiilaa ("he made it") as a last name. The books' covers bear the words Brian Wildsmith Naaltsoos Áyiilaa, meaning "a book by Brian Wildsmith." Another such case is Hane Ayiilaa with the word haneʼ ("story") misinterpreted in the same way. |
