Silkshire Terrier

A Silkshire is a hybrid made by crossing two terriers.
These terriers are called the Yorkshire Terrier, and the Silky Terrier.
While these two breeds might look similar, they are in fact two different breeds.
Before we talk about what the Silkshire looks like, it is important to review the two parent breeds first, so that we may better understand what the offspring will look like.
Characteristics of the Silky Terrier
While some people may think Silky Terrier is just another name for the Yorkshire Terrier, the American Kennel Club does recognize is as a separate breed.
The Silky is must bigger and is more closely related to the Australian Terrier than the Yorkie.
Although it was developed partly from Yorkies, when they arrived in Australia.
These dogs are true terriers and have the personality to match.
They are brave and proud, but make great family dogs.
They have a blue and tan coat which is closely related to the Yorkie.
Like the Yorkie, Silky Terriers belong to the AKC Toy Group and were not recognized until 1959.
They stand about 9 to 10 inches tall and weigh about 10 pounds.
Characteristics of the Yorkshire Terrier

The Yorkie originally comes from Yorkshire England and is black and tan in color.
It weighs only 7 pounds and has straight hair, and is considered to be hypoallergenic.
They belong to the Toy Group and are the second most popular dog breed in America.
These dogs travel well and make great house pets.
Their long coats require regular brushing. The AKC first recognized them in 1885.
