</noinclude>Mzoli Ngcawuzele is an entrepreneur in Gugulethu, South Africa. He is best known for his butchery, Mzoli's Meat, an eatery and social gathering place in an otherwise nondescript area of Gugulethu. Mzoli's Meat His restaurant opened in early 2003. He obtained start-up funding from the Development Bank of South Africa, which supports black-owned businesses. In October 2006, an economic study said that Mzoli had "moved, from selling meat informally from a garage, to owning one of the most popular hangouts in Cape Town". Criticism over Gugulethu shopping centre A large shopping centre called Guguletu Square is being built on the land of the now bulldozed Eyona shopping centre. The mall is set to open in September next year with 70% of the retail space already given to retailers Mzoli Properties owns 9% of the development. The conflict around the mall has been brewing since Ngcawuzele evicted the tenants of the old Eyona shopping centre in 2006. According to reports, the land (34,000 square metres) was sold by the city to Kula for only R11.70. Protesters have also charged Ngcauwezele intimidates rather than consults with area residents. Some have claimed Ngcauwezele has drawn upon his clout within local ANC branches and Gugulethu police to intimidate residents. Ngcauwezele is said to be close to the provincial ANC chairperson, Mcebisi Skwatsha, and has also been accused of giving politically biased ward councillors the authority to choose who would be given space in the mall. In response to threats that his property may get vandalised, Ngcauwezele has called some protesters "criminal thugs." Protesters have hit back, saying that if they were criminals they would be rich like Ngcauwezele. Family In June 2009, Ngcauwezele's only remaining son was killed in a car accident, which is a tragic follow-up to his daughter having been kidnapped (but found unharmed) and his eldest son having drowned in a rip current in January 2007.
