The Murder of Said Bourarach was an alleged hate crime that took place in May 2010 in the town of Bobigny, France. A group of youths, all of whom are Jewish, attempted to enter the hardware store where Bourarach, who was Muslim, was working as a security guard. Bourarach, a 35-year-old father of one, refused to let the youths into the store and allegedly told them, "I have no time for people like you." According to police, the youths interpreted this remark as an anti-Semitic statement, waited until the store closed, and then attacked Bourarach; they were described by eyewitnesses as attempting to "settle the score" with him. The following day, Bourarach's body was found in a nearby ditch. The youths claimed that Bourarach fell into the ditch while trying to escape, but an attorney representing the victim's family said that this explanation was not consistent with the results of the postmortem examination. The youths have been described as "infamous in Bobigny" and are well-known to police for a string of earlier offenses; one of them, known as "Dan L.", was described as having "a particularly bad reputation for being violent".
