Mr. Monk Goes To The Asylum

Plot
Monk comes to his home & starts cooking some dinner. As he forgets something, he asks Sharona about it on the phone. He tells Sharona that he saw a popcorn maker in his kitchen, whereupon Sharona tells him to get out of the home, as he does not have a popcorn maker & is therefore in a wrong home.
Later, it is found that Monk accidentally went to Trudy's home, which was being used by its new owners. The new owners do not press any charges, but Dr.Kroger decides that Monk needs special treatment. He refers Monk to his friend, a famous psychiatrist Dr.Lancaster(Kevin Nealon). It is decided that Monk will be under 48 hour surveillance.
Monk is shown his room & soon runs into John, his room partner. Monk is a bit happy to learn that John is a detective too. John takes Monk on a small tour of the hotel. He tells that a murder took place in the drugs room. Dr.Conrad Gould(Kris Ryan) was killed by Bill LaFrankie(Kelly Fiddick), who later killed himself, but John has his own doubts, since the gun was never found.
Monk also meets Manny(Ken Cheeseman), who believes in & draws pictures of Santa Claus. That very night, a patient suffers from an attack & Monk sees a man on the roof. Manny, who has been given a room near to the roof, believes it to be Santa & takes his picture. Next day, he tells the group about it, but his camera goes missing.
As usual, Monk involves all the inmates in role play & deduces that Bill might not be the killer. Also, he finds some old pictures of the case that puts him in doubt. He becomes sure that Dr.Lancaster has something to do with this. Dr.Lancaster senses this & convinces his acquaintances that his condition has detoriated & he has to be put for surveillance for atleast two months.
Sharona, however, believes Monk & snoops around. While going through old records, she sees something & sends some pictures of Trudy to Monk as gift. At night, when Monk is about to sleep, his roommate sees the picture glow. Sharona has sent Monk a secret message. Monk breaks into Lancasters room, but Lancaster tricks the ward-boy to believe that Monk tried to kill him & sends Monk to Quiet Room. The doctor tries to kill Monk & make it look like drug overdose. Monk manages to escape.
Here's what happened
Monk hides in Manny's room. Soon they both see a Santa Claus on the roof. Manny snaps the photo this time. Monk has noted that Lancaster is fond of fishing & that the reel is missing. Monk confronts Santa, who is none other than Lancaster in Santa's costume. Monk tells that Lancaster always thought of himself as the next director of the institute, but when a Senior doctor named Dr.Murdock recommended the name of Dr.Gould, Lancaster became angry.
Lancaster hid in the room & killed Dr.Gould. To make it look like murder by an inmate, he drugged Bill, took him out & killed him too. He dispatched the gun in hospital chimney, but since the hospital renovation had started, he had to dispatch it somewhere else. So, he took the reel out of his own fishing line to get the gun.
Meanwhile, Manny realizes that he is not looking at real Santa. The doctor finally gets the gun out & is about to shoot Monk, but nothing happens. Monk notes that the barrel & firing pin have been completely oxidized in 4 years. Suddenly, Sharona arrives with Leland & Dr.Lancaster is arrested. Before letting the doctor being arrested, Monk tells him that he was the best doctor Monk ever met.
In the end, Monk calls Sharona back to confirm whether he is in his own home. When Sharona confides that, Monk goes to sleep happily.
