Mount Eliza TT

The Mount Eliza TT was an annual Moto-Cycle racing event held at the Humphries Rd road course in Melbourne, Australia from 1995 to 2001.
The course
The tt's course was originally a larger layout than what was used in the last years of the event. The original course started on one section of the Nepean Highway, turned up a slight hill onto a concrete section of Humphries Road, turned into Bareena drive, and looped into Fulton Road, and finished back at the Pit straight on the Nepean Hwy. The course was shortened for the 1997 event. The Nepean Hwy section was removed from the course, and the pit strait was relocated to Fulton Rd. The course started from Fulton Rd, turned left onto Humphries road, then left again to the end of Bareena, and back on to Fulton.
Catergories
The TT had two catergories, Superbike and GP. The Superbikes ran point to point races,While the Grand Prix catergorie raced around the course.
Fatalities
5 riders died during the TT's running, Almost all of them were from the Superbike Catergory. The course was known for its ungaurded spectator veiwpoints, similar to the Isle of Man TT.
Marshals and Officials
The course had Marshal posts every 200 meters. On some parts of the course, it was extremely hard to posistion marsharls becase of the Houses and trees.
Safety Concerns
The TT's course was a relatively safe, except for the Humphries Rd section, where there was no barrier separating spectators form the road on the Left side. The course went under safety review in 1999, after 2 spectators and one rider were killed on the Humphries Rd section where there was no barrier. The course was refitted with a concrete barrier and catch fence on the Humphries Rd side to separate spectators from the track. The Fulton Rd section was also updated with the pit wall now being consisted of a safer tire wall compared to the old Armco barrier. The Bareena Drive section was also fitted with new armco, one green section still remains on bareena drive today.
Future
The last TT was held on February 19, 2001. The TT was never run again because of costs for the local council, traffic congestion and noise. The Course is still a public road, with tire marks still evident. There was also plans to build a permanent pit building, but the idea was scrapped due to a new housing development.
