The most powerful person in the world is a term used to discribe the individual with the greatest ability to influence events and project power on a worldwide scale to protect their (and their nation's) interests. Such power is normally held by the leader of the world's most powerful nation. In recent times the President of the United States (currently Barack Obama) is said to be the 'most powerful' person in the world due to the United States' status as the only remaining superpower. Historically individuals who held other offices and positions such as the Emperor of the Rome, and the Pope have been said to be the most powerful person in the world. Forbes magazine annually publish a list of who it feels are the world's most powerful men and women.
