Montague Davenport

Montague Davenport CBE FRPharmS (1916-) is a former British naval intelligence officer and pharmacist. Davenport is seen by many as a father of modern COMSEC (communications security) processes. He was educated at Sherborne School, Chelsea Polytechnic and University College Hospital. In his early career, Davenport was a prominent figure in the safeguarding of Royal Naval communications signals during WWII having joined the RNVR before April 1939. He later became an Assistant Director of GCHQ (Government Communications Headquarters). From 1959-1975, he served as Chairman of J. T. Davenport Ltd, manufacturers of Dr. J. Collis Browne’s Chlorodyne also was a Director of Barclays Pharmaceuticals and Camwal Mineral Water Company. He is the son of Hayward Davenport and the great-grandson of John Thistlewood Davenport, founder of J. T. Davenport Ltd. Sources: Who's Who, The Sherborne Register |
