Mohammad Umer (also spelled Omer) also known as Umesh was an Indian Muslim caught in a contrversy due to a Hindu-Muslim marriage. Events On April 2, 2007, Umer and his then girlfriend Priyanka Wadhwani left their home in Bhopal for Mumbai. On the 3rd, Umer underwent shuddhi and was renamed as Umesh, after converting to Hinduism. The Bhopal police then lodged a kidnapping case against Umer, even though Wadhwani and Umer were both adults and furthermore Wadhwani went on record stating: High Court ruling The high court upheld the marriage, partly basing its ruling on a prior ruling that stated that Hindu-Muslim marriages is not "unusual" |
