MLWGS: The Musical

MLWGS: The Musical is a Wiggie-award-winning one-act musical, written by James Caven and Quan Chau. It pokes fun at the day-to-day interactions within Maggie L. Walker Governor's School for Government and International Studies, whose name contracts to the eponymous "MLWGS". The plot of the show centers around Mike, a freshman at the school, as he and his fellow freshmen navigate the school.
Plot
The show centers around Mike, a freshman who starts out very excited for the coming year ("Maggie Walker"), meeting his new friends right away. He instantly wants to be friends with Lexie, the popular girl of the class, but her middle school friend Chad swoops in before Mike has a chance to make a move. The cast then moves desks around to prepare for the first geometry class ("Changing Classes"). In geometry, after Mike's classmate Otto comes bursting in late, the teacher Ms. Enderive makes a series of bad jokes, before classes switch to global studies, where the teacher Mr. Quail is revealed as a conspiracy nut. The first day of school then approaches, and our characters feel nervous but excited ("First Day of School"). It is revealed that Mike has a very rudimentary grasp of math; in fact, he doesn't even know what a triangle is. The cast sings, tongue-in-cheek, about switching classes ("Changing Classes (Reprise)"). In global studies, Lexie continually fails at answering the teacher's questions, while Mike knows all of the answers. After class, right when Mike thinks it is the weekend, everyone realizes that there is still Friday left ("Friday Morning"). On Friday, each class passes by in a blur, and the day is over before Mike knows it. After a nonexistent weekend, Ms. Enderive tells the class that a test is approaching, which prompts Mike into a self-induced psychological spiral ("I'm So Screwed"). After the test, Mike feels like he failed, but Ms. Enderive mentions that it was really just a pre-test, to measure growth throughout the year. Mike and his classmates then realize that, in the end, there are no problems at all ("Everything's Probably Going to Be Okay").
