MITACS Inc. is a Canadian research network which connects industry, academia and government through innovative research and training programs. Through programs such as Accelerate, Elevate, Globalink and Step, MITACS aims to help Canada build the economy of the future - an economy built on knowledge, innovation and ideas. Dr. Arvind Gupta is the current CEO of MITACS. In October 2010 he was appointed by the Minister of State (Science and Technology), Gary Goodyear, as a member of the Canadian government's research and development expert review panel. MITACS Programs Accelerate Connects graduate students and postdoctoral fellows - “interns” - with companies through short and medium-term research projects. Companies gain access to the latest research innovations occurring at Canada’s universities while connecting with future employees; interns have the opportunity to apply their research to real business challenges while learning to operate in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment. Since 2008, MITACS Accelerate has delivered over 2,200 internships at 51 Canadian universities and 42 research networks with over 600 industry partners. Elevate Enables recent PhD graduates to build their scientific management capacity in Canada and transition from academia to industry. Elevate fellow undergo personalized business training and build business connections while companies experience, first-hand, the benefits of advanced research expertise. Elevate is in its first year as a pilot program in Ontario. Work is being done to expand it to other provinces. Globalink Recruits top international undergraduate students for summer research internships at Canadian universities. Globalink interns experience all Canada has to offer in terms of research, education, quality of life and recreation, putting Canada on the map as a preferred destination for graduate studies. Step Trains Canadian graduate students with non-technical skills such as project management, business communication, networking and entrepreneurship, capabilities critical to their career success. Outreach Highlights mathematics to middle and high school students through engaging fast past initiatives such as Show Math , a live, multi-media stage show, and MathAmaze , an online math question-and-answer game. Teens and pre-teens learn that mathematics is the language of science and impacts their lives on a daily basis.
