Missional leader

The phrase “Missional Leader” is becoming widely used in Christian circles in recent decades It commonly refers to church leaders, but can also refer to individuals in a church congregation. The word "mission" is derived from the Latin missioninimus which means "the act of being sent out".
Church Leaders
Part of this shift is church leaders becoming more missional as opposed to pastoral . An example of how this might work in practice is ministry staff working as coaches and mentors rather than being a manager or maintainer of a centralized ministry. Mancini states that missional leaders should be using time with the church is gathered to prepare congregations to be ‘real’ church gathered outside its building.

Churches
Some churches have changed their structures with the focus on missional. These are often referred to as Missional Communities. In the UK, St Thomas’ Sheffield pioneered this with Mike Breen as the senior pastor, and in the U.S the Community of Joy in Phoenix, Arizona was one of the first to adopt this Missional model.
Individuals
Missional Leadership does not have to be exclusive to church leaders. The growing movement of workplace ministry has called for all Christians living out their faith in the secular workplace to be missional leaders where they work. Organizations such as LICC aim to provide resources for people in these situation, and theological colleges such as the Centre for Missional Leadership train Christians to be effective missional leaders.
